What to expect from Voice Lessons

Private Singing Lessons

Private lessons are a time to meet one-on-one with a teacher and work out specific areas that you would like to improve.

Your time will consist of

  • chatting a little to put you at ease and check in with your mood, health and attitude for the day

  • vocal warm-ups to get your voice ready to make the shift to singing

  • singing through some music, figuring out what feels good and what needs improvement. This part is the fun part! You and your teacher will kind of play detective to determine what factors are influencing the sounds you are making on any given day. The more you practice between lessons, the more you can focus on singing technique rather than just learning songs.

  • singing through more music and polishing things up. You may be working on multiple songs and want to get input on all of them. Sometimes it’s nice to review old songs with different teachers to get a new perspective. Your voice may be feeling its happy place higher or lower than usual, and different songs work different areas of the voice.

  • choosing new music you won’t choose new music every week, but it is fun to keep trying new things!

  • feeling empowered! There is physiological and psychological evidence that singing calms the spirit, raises mood and gives you a sense of control. It is rare that you will leave a voice lesson feeling worse than when you walked in.

Please note that we recommend private voice lessons for those who are 10 years old or older.

“Voice lessons will open your voice up to so many more opportunities and ways to grow! They provide the direction and feedback necessary for your voice to grow - they are helping SO MUCH! I sound like an entirely different singer after a year studying voice.”

- Audrey Prostrollo

Semi-Private and Group Singing Lessons

Semi-Private (2-3) and Group Lessons (4-6) can take many forms!

Maybe you would feel more comfortable learning to control your own voice if you did it together with a friend or two. Singing in front of one person (the teacher) can be scary! These type of lessons are meant to help calm your nerves until you gain confidence in your own skill.

Duets or Small Ensembles: It is so much fun to work up music with someone else, no matter your confidence level. Whether…

  • You and your bestie want to do a duet for the school talent show

  • You’re asked to sing a duet at a wedding

  • You and two BFFs want to sing an Andrews Sisters' - style trio at a showcase

  • You and your Significant Other really want to sing ooey-gooey love songs to each other

  • You’ve always wanted to do an acapella group like Pentatonix or some kind of vocal jazz

Whatever the occasion, you want a little help pulling it all together.

To do this type of lesson, your teacher will create a “class” for you and you and your friends/siblings/parent, etc. will commit to several lessons in a row. This is probably easiest to do with the help of our receptionist to help coordinate everyone’s schedules and the room assignments.
